Take advantage of regular check-ups
Well Man or Well Women checks usually in GP practices offer a range of checks such as blood pressure, prostate checks for men and cervical smear tests for women. Between checks report any unusual bleeding, changes in moles or new lumps promptly to the GP.
Vaccinations to prevent seasonal flu and pneumonia are available for vulnerable groups from GP surgeries. Vaccinations and medication to prevent other diseases including polio, hepatitis and malaria should be accessed when planning a holiday, available from GP surgeries or travel centres.
Annual dental checks and hygiene cleans are very important for ensuring good dental health and can in cases prevent dental abscesses and consequential ill health, in extreme cases may even prevent heart disease or a brain abscess.
Regular eye checks are also important as opticians can detect many conditions in the early stages such as glaucoma and diabetes.
